Mesko received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Davenport University in Michigan, but did not play volleyball until moving to the beaches of Southern California. He received his pilot's license during undergraduate studies at Northwestern Michigan Flight Academy. He is one of nine children (Dean, Cindy, Chris, Terry, Jennifer, Tammy, Karen and Bethany).

Mesko is a Commercial Pilot and a former Professional Mountain Bike Racer. He was the 1995 Junior National Downhill Mountain Bike Champion and captain of the U.S. Junior team at the World Championships.

His volleyball hero is Mike Whitmarsh, as they both started playing beach volleyball at approximately the same age - 28.  When he's not playing volleyball, he enjoys putting together real estate and business ventures.  Or teaching his son Logan how to ride wheelies.

Mesko grew up in Traverse City, Michigan.  He states his favorite movie is Ace Ventura or Old School, and favorite TV show is Seinfeld.  For reading material, he prefers Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
