Comerica Bank Challenger, Seascape Sports Club, Aptos 2011

The Comerica Bank Challenger had an exceptional year, with a draw that varied from the first seed, Igor Kunitsyn at # 62 in the world to # 389 as the last direct acceptance. There were very few matches that did not go three sets and this not only kept scheduling a tough challenge but kept spectators and sponsors excited about the next day. The Challenger's winner, a young 19 year old Lithuanian, Laurynas Grigelis upset the number 1 seed in the semi's and knocked out the # 7 seed in the finals. The tennis could not have been more exciting and Sunday's draw of close to a 1,000 people was a perfect recognition of the week's spectator enthusiasm. The Challenger athletes all maintained their energy and hydration with Oxylent!

The week was kicked off by the Sponsor party at Seascape Beach Resort with guest speaker Justin Gimelstob. Some of this year's event sponsors were Oxylent, Nordic Naturals, HarTru, KSBW, PrintSmith, ABC, Seascape Resort, Luxus and Maia Negre Fine Art.. Other highlights included the Cal Open Women's Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles .In addition to these events the Tournament also hosted a Free Kid's Day where children from various groups from YMCA, Big Brothers and Sisters and local schools were given lessons by USPTA Pros as well and the ATP Pro's playing in the men's event. This tournament was a perfect opportunity to expose and bring great tennis to our local area as well as an opportunity to give back to children and the community.

With 90-plus tournaments hosted annually throughout the country and prize money ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, the USTA Pro Circuit is the pathway to the US Open and a tour-level competition for aspiring tennis players and a frequent battleground for established professionals.
